OUSD holds public hearing June 16 on 2021-22 budget; see budget in district office

6 16 21 OUSD budget review Ojai Unified School District board has a full agenda on Wednesday, June 16, when it meets via videoconference. It will start with a closed session at 4 p.m. to discuss employee discipline, dismissal release and a student expulsion. It will reconvene in open session at 4:30 p.m.
The board will hold a public hearing on its 2021-22 budget, which is available for viewing on June 15 and 16 in the school district office, 414 E. Ojai Ave., during work hours.

Public comments may be submitted in writing by 4 p.m. the day of the meeting and are recommended to be 450 words or fewer.

The OUSD 2019-20 budget audit was presented on May 12 and can be viewed at:

On Page 100, the audit states that OUSD management is investigating the possible charging of excess overtime "during 2019-2020 and continuing into 2020-2021..... The total amount of overtime charged by the employees was approximately $44,000 for the 2019‐2020 fiscal year. ...Controls have been established that require employees to obtain their supervisor’s approval in advance of working overtime."

— Contract with Rock Tree Sky education vendor on Summit School campus in Upper Ojai, including an extension of the license through June 2025:

Included in the revised license agreement is:

● The reassignment of one classroom and one office space to Ojai Unified for Summit School use

● A corresponding reduction of fees from $50,000 to $$44,832 

● The addition of an annual renegotiation of fees 

● An extension through June of 2025 


The 7-11 Committee on May 9, 2019, made four recommendations to the school board for use of Summit School after the school board temporarily shuttered the campus.

The school board accepted the 7-11 Committee report on June 6, 2019.

The 7-11 Committee recommendations were:

• A public charter school

• A one-year license to Rock Tree Sky to begin in June 2019

• A 4-year license with a community-use rider and a re-evaluation at the two-year period of the public school option.

• The school property not be sold

That two-year-recommended period for re-evaluation would be 2021.
