Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire at Quail Run Ranch in the 3000 block of Maricopa Highway at 6:12 p.m. Friday, June 18. Highway 33 was closed, but was reported to have reopened with traffic control as of 9:30 p.m.

The fire was initially reported to be a half acre, moving uphill toward a lemon orchard.  As of 8:50 p.m., the firefighters had the fire under control.

Firefighters said their early priority was that the fire not get into the canyon on the left side from the road.

A nearby resident said the fire broke out at multiple locations on the ranch. After receiving calls about someone intentionally starting the fires, Ojai sheriff's deputies were looking for a possible suspect, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office and witnesses at the scene of the fire.
