A crash between a semi truck and a motorcycle claimed the life of the motorcycle rider Sept. 1 on Highway 150, west of Rameli Ranch Road, between Ojai and Carpinteria.

The fatal crash, reported at 2:37 p.m., occurred in the 5500 block of Casitas Pass Road, which is west of the chlorination plant, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The California Highway Patrol identified the victim as Sung Dae Kang, 35, of Oxnard, reported to be riding a 2018 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100RR motorcycle.

The driver of the 2017 Peterbilt 3 axle dump truck was identified as Robert Gardner, 53, of Lompoc. He was not reported to have been injured.

According to a CHP press release, the motorcyclist was riding eastbound on SR-150 and Gardner was driving westbound. The CHP wrote: "As the two vehicles approached each other, Mr. Kang lost control of the Aprilia motorcycle. The Aprilia motorcycle traveled over the solid double yellow lines and crashed into the side of the Peterbilt truck. Mr. Kang was ejected from the Aprilia motorcycle."

The CHP, along with firefighters from Ventura County and Carpinteria, responded to the crash, where fire scanner traffic indicated the motorcyclist was in traumatic full arrest with paramedics performing CPR.

Ventura County Copter 6 also responded.

The CHP shut down the highway in both directions and a landing zone was set up near the chlorination plant to airlift the patient to the hospital, but at 3:22 p.m. the victim was declared dead by firefighters, the helicopter was released and the coroner was requested.

This story will be updated.

This crash is still under investigation by the Ventura Area CHP Office. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has information regarding this crash is asked to call the Ventura Area CHP Office at 805-662-2640.
