A vegetation fire broke out on Highway 33, 12 miles out from Potrero John’s southeast end trail at 2:39 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Engine 22 responded, with Battalion 51.

The fire was half an acre, reduced to 1/8 of an acre by 3:36 p.m. and was moving uphill alongside a steep slope on the north side of Highway 33.

The fire was classified as light to medium fuels and was reportedly topography-driven.

Copter 4 was on scene with crew 13 on board.

Additional units were called off.

The U.S. Forest Service arrived on scene, but units from Engine 22 remained until the Forest Service was properly equipped.

Estimated time for extinguishing was three hours from 3:57 p.m.
