Democratic Club to host panel on fire resiliency

DemocraticClub

The Ojai Valley Democratic Club is hosting a panel on fire resiliency to help protect the Ojai community from fire risks, which is particularly timely as the Alisal Fire is currently burning in the neighboring county of Santa Barbara.

The panel will take place Monday, Oct. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ojai Arts Center, 113 Montgomery St.

Panelists will include Ojai Valley Fire Safe Council Executive Director Christopher Danch, former Ventura County Fire Department Assistant Chief John McNeil, and Los Padres Forest Watch Conservation Director Bryant Baker.

The panelist will address the impacts of fires on plants and wildlife, controlled burning, logging and forest thinning, chaparral restoration, the use of military satellites for early fire detection, and getting homes and communities ready to prevent fires and reduce their harmful impacts, along with other topics.

The group is hoping to obtain a spokesperson from Los Padres Forest Service or the Los Padres Forest Association.

Those interested in submitting specific talking points are encouraged to contact club Vice Chair Jeffrey Starkweather at 919-417-0969 or via email at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
