Jeff Barry, former DA lead investigator of the Nov. 18, 2014 Santa Clara Waste Water explosion, just west of Santa Paula, will describe what happened that day at a free presentation on Nov. 2.


“The Hazardous Truth: The Criminal Investigation into the 2014 Santa Clara Waste Water Explosion” will start at 6:30 p.m. at Regency Santa Paula 7 movie theater, 550 W. Main St., Santa Paula.

Barry will detail the incident and challenging probe that resulted in 71 felony and misdemeanor charges being brought against 11 defendants.

The explosion injured scores of people, most of the injuries the result of exposure to toxic chemicals. The incident began after the rear of a vacuum truck exploded before dawn, leading to a 1,000-gallon chemical spill and fire. A state of emergency was in effect for 60 days.

County public meeting Nov. 8

Ventura County Planning Division will hold a public meeting on Monday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Santa Paula Community Center, 530 W. Main St., to provide an overview of the application to reopen the wastewater plant on Mission Rock Road.

The public-comment period for the application is through 5 p.m. Nov. 30.
