OUSD board to meet at Matilija auditorium Dec. 15

Ojai Unified School District’s school board is set to meet Dec. 15 at Matilija Middle School auditorium at 5:30 p.m.

Trevor Quirk of Upper Ojai requested that the proposed development of the school district office at 414 E. Ojai Ave. be added to the agenda. Community members at the Nov. 29 meeting also requested that vaccine and mask mandates for students be added.  If those issues are not added to the Dec. 15 agenda, the public can comment on them, but the board cannot address them.

During the Nov. 29 meeting, tensions arose over some members of the public refusing to comply with the county’s indoor mask mandate during the meeting.

Masks will be required for the Dec. 15 meeting and may only be removed when someone approaches the podium to make a public comment.

The Ventura County Office of Education has released a series of FAQs about a potential COVID-19 vaccine mandate for students that can be viewed at

“Because the COVID-19 vaccination mandate for students is being issued through a public health regulation, rather than through the state Legislature, a personal belief exemption will apply,” the FAQ states.  The FAQ clarifies that the FDA’s vaccine Emergency Use Authorization for COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 5-11 does not mean there has been full FDA approval, so there are currently no requirements for that group to be vaccinated to attend school in person.
