Ojai Unified School District is distributing free at-home COVID-19 test kits on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 8, at Nordhoff High School and Meiners Oaks School.

Those OUSD students who are unable to pick up one free COVID test kit (containing two tests) on Saturday will be able to receive one starting next week.

“It is entirely optional for families to receive a test kit,” according to an OUSD online communication.

The kits are being distributed to students with last names starting with A to L on Saturday, Jan. 8, from 10 to 11 a.m., and to families with last names starting from M to Z from 11 a.m. to noon

The kits are available at Meiners Oaks Elementary School, 400 S. Lomita St., for those OUSD students in elementary, schools, Chaparral High School and Summit.

They are available at Nordhoff High School, 1401 Maricopa Highway, for Matilija and Nordhoff High students.

Each Ojai Unified School District student is eligible to receive one free box, which contains two tests.

Families with children at more than one school are asked to pick up their test kit at the site that applies to the oldest student.

For families who are unable to attend the distribution event on Jan. 8, the district communication stated that the students will have an opportunity to receive a test kit next week.

They are asked to “be on the lookout for information from your student’s school for steps on how you can request to receive a test kit if you cannot pick yours up” on Jan. 8.

Students are eligible to receive only one test kit from either the Jan. 8 distribution event or from they school site, starting Jan. 10.

The test kits are being provided statewide to California schools.
In a written statement, district officials wrote: “Families are encouraged to use these test kits as a helpful first resource should a student begin to experience COVID symptoms or be exposed to COVID. The tests are intended to be used within the next month."
OUSD families needing a free digital thermometer are asked to complete a flier available via the OUSD ParentSquare communication app before Jan. 12 to be included in the first shipment to the school district.
