Nordhoff High School graduate Nathan "Nate" Rhoades, age 21, Class of 2019, died after being critically injured in a vehicle crash Jan. 20, while driving on Victoria Avenue, north of Doris Avenue in Oxnard.

A GoFundMe has been created in his honor by his family and donations for medical costs can be made to: https://gf.me/v/c/zc9p/nate-will-live-on

In the GoFundMe message on Jan. 24, Rhoades' mother, Heidi Rhoades, wrote: "Our dear, loving son, Nathan Rhoades, sadly passed away in a tragic car accident on 1/20/2022. He was pronounced brain dead and is still on life support at Ventura County Medical Center, in preparation for his organ donation. We will be donating all of his organs (heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, eyes, intestines, bone marrow, etc.) to help enhance and/or save the lives of up to 100 people. Although we have insurance, we anticipate out-of-pocket medical expenses we will incur, in light of the length of his stay and the efforts to keep his body functioning so that his organs are viable for transplant.

"Nate was an amazing human who touched so many people's lives. We have heard from so many people who have told us how he helped them, friends who have shared that they could always talk to Nate, how he listened and gave such amazing support in times of need. He was also so funny and hilarious, making so many laugh. Nate was an amazing motivator who loved to help people get into fitness and live healthier lives as a personal trainer at Gold's Gym.

"We will be having a Celebration of Life for anyone who would like to join us, on March 19th, Sat., at Soule Park in Ojai. Please reach out to me, his mother, Heidi at [phone redacted] if you would like to share about Nate or get more info on the event.

"Thank you for your support and contributions to help continue Nate's legacy. Love, Larry and Heidi Rhoades"

Oxnard police officers and Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to the crash at about 10:13 p.m.

According to the Oxnard Police Department in a written statement, the 43-year-old driver of a 2001 Volvo semi-truck and trailer attempted to make a U-turn from southbound to northbound Victoria Avenue when the collision occurred. Rhoades was driving a 2005 Saturn northbound.

According to the Oxnard police, Rhoades sustained serious injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the semi-truck, an Oxnard resident, was uninjured and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

Rhoades’ parents posted information about their son’s condition on Facebook on Jan. 21, writing that he was on life support at that time. They wrote: “Nate is the kindest soul and has been so excited in his job as a personal trainer at Gold’s Gym. He loves helping people get fit and I couldn’t ask for a kinder son.”

Nordhoff High classmates and friends have posted numerous tributes to the former Nordhoff High School football player who just celebrated his 21st birthday last week.

Traffic investigators responded to the scene and took over the investigation of the crash, which is ongoing. Anyone who has information regarding the collision is urged to contact Oxnard Police Officer Corbin Hames at 805-385-7750 or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
