1-20-22, Paula Virgene Perry, 89

Paula Virgene Perry passed away peacefully at her home in Ojai on January 20, 2022. She was three months shy of her 90th birthday.

Paula was born to Harriet and Virgil Riley on April 21, 1932, in Omaha, Texas. They moved several times but ended up in California where Paula graduated high school in Williams, CA in 1948.

In 1950, Paula was attending San Jose State, but came to visit her parents in Ventura, and met Robert “Bob” Perry at an American Legion dance.

She moved to Ventura and attended Ventura College, and she and Bob were married on June 22, 1951.

They had two children and moved between Ojai, Ventura, the San Fernando Valley, and back to Ventura, where both of their children graduated high school.

In the 1980s, they lived in Washington for several years and spent time RV-ing before returning to Ventura where they lived, until moving to Ojai in 2003.

Aside from when her children were young, Paula always worked outside the home.

She worked in several fields, but in the latter part of her working years, she was a legal secretary and served as director of the Ventura County Criminal Justice Planning Board.

Paula was an accomplished pianist, accompanying her high school music programs and her children’s elementary school PTA musical productions, and she continued to play at home when they entertained.

She and Bob were active in the Church of Christ, becoming part of multiple congregations over the years.

Paula enjoyed making a big pot of her homemade chili and having the kids from church over for dinner!

Paula was preceded in death by her brother Glyn Riley, and is survived by her husband Robert “Bob” Perry; daughter Lynn and husband Ron Murphy; son Robert “Tre” Perry III and wife Teresa; grandchildren Ryan Murphy, Chad Murphy, Kyle Murphy, Robin (Perry) Garretson, and their families, including six great-grandchildren.
