1-16-22, Peter Dunster Costigan, 90

Peter Dunster Costigan, a long-time supporter and friend of the Ojai Valley Community Hospital, passed away on January 16, 2022, at the hospital’s Continuing Care Center after a short illness.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann DiGiorgio Costigan, three sons, a stepson and seven grandchildren, who knew him as Grandpa Pete.

His first wife, Carol G. Costigan of San Francisco, also survives him. A sister, Mary Ilma Anderson (Martin) predeceased him.

Peter was born in Berkeley, CA, on March 26, 1931, and after graduating from Berkeley High School attended Stanford University, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and earned a master’s degree in Business Administration in 1955.

He spent more than 48 years as an investment analyst and banker in San Francisco, before retiring from the firm of Moors & Cabot in 2003, and moved to Ojai. From 2007 to 2009, he paused his retirement to serve on the Ventura County Grand Jury.

Above all, Peter is remembered by friends and family for his kindness, mischievous sense of humor and ready smile.

With his wife Ann, he traveled widely in Europe, Africa and the South Pacific. They particularly enjoyed vacations at Rancho Las Cruces in Baja, California, and getaway trips with family in Hawaii, where Peter had deep family roots.

Peter especially took pleasure in his daily walks in the San Francisco Presidio with his labradors.

While living in Ojai, Peter and Ann enjoyed attending the monthly meetings of the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Guild, and served as co-chairs of the annual Nightingale Ball fundraiser for the Guild in 2008.

Ann Costigan gives special thanks to Peter’s three sons; Peter, Jr. (Jan Murray), Carlton (Vickie) and William (Stephanie), and stepson, Charles Hein (Dena), for their support during Peter’s illness and afterward.

The family plans a celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, they ask that friends donate to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital or a charity of their choice.
