Ojai Democrats host Feb. 27 Panel on oil and gas ballot measures in June


A panel on oil and gas extraction in the Ojai Valley and Ventura County will be hosted by the Ojai Valley Democratic Club on Sunday, Feb. 27, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Ojai Art Center, 113 S. Montgomery St.

The event is free and open to the public.

On the panel will be Tomás Rebecchi, Central Coast organizing manager for Food and Water Watch, representing VCSafe: “Yes on A & B,” a political action committee that is leading the campaign to vote yes on both measures on the June primary ballot to improve environmental safeguards for drilling in the county.

Also on the panel will be county Supervisor Chair Carmen Ramirez; Steve Colomé, Ph.D., climate and environmental health scientist, who is on the advisory board of CFROG (Climate First-Replacing Oil and Gas); and Ojai City Councilmember Ryan Blatz.

The newly elected board of the Ojai Valley Democratic Club includes immediate past president Judy K. Nelson, who has agreed to serve as interim treasurer until the club can recruit a permanent treasurer; communications professional Blair Braney as secretary; and retired journalist John Brooks as first vice president. The club meets on the fourth Sunday of the month starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Ojai Arts Center patio.
