The meeting was organized by the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) to provide an overview of the regulatory agency’s efforts to increase state abandonments of orphan and deserted wells, including its screening methodology for ranking and prioritizing wells, as well as how new federal and potentially state legislation can support the effort.

Joining the meeting were officials from the Ventura County Resource Management Agency, Planning Division and Air Pollution Control District, a representative from Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks' office, and environmental-justice community, labor and industry representatives.
