Public safety and local police reform panel discussion - May 19

Local officials working in diversity and inclusion, will join law enforcement officials for an online community conversation at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19.

The conversation will be moderated by Cynthia Salas, president of Latino Town Hall and panelists include Phin Xaypangna, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer with the CEO’s office of Ventura County; Claudia Bautista, Ventura County Public Defender and co-chair of Ventura County’s Public Safety Racial Equity Advisory Group (PSREAG); Bill Ayub, Ventura County Sheriff and Vanessa Valdez, president of the Latinx Bar Association.

Topics to include PSREAG formation, goals, progress, future plans Police reform efforts in Ventura County, Community perception, Future needs.

In 2020, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution declaring racism a public health crisis. What actions have taken place since to enhance public safety and racial equity? Meet VC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. Learn about the Public Safety Racial Equity Advisory Group’s (PSREAG) formation and progress. Hear from our VC Sheriff about local police reforms and from community voices on what more might be needed.
