After two long years, the Nordhoff High School Dance Program will present its Spring Dance Concert, “Into the Headspace,” at the Matilija Auditorium, Friday, May 20, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 21, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are available now online at

The Ojai community is invited to enjoy this special event. This is a very special show for all of the dancers, as for some this is their last big show before they say their final goodbye; for many others, due to the pandemic, this is their first time performing on the Matilija stage. The dance program will present a variety of dances choreographed by both student choreographers and special guest artists. The Ojai community is invited to come out and enjoy this special night with our dancers.

Seniors this year include Brianna Alonso, Maddie Brannan, Ella Grigsby, Belen Hernandez, Valery Hernandez, Mixtli Medina, Kirra Nevarez, Hannah Oswald, Chloe Samia, Brianna Turner, and Kailey Zak.

Zak shared: “From my experience, choreography has always been about portraying a story to the audience, along with the emotion that comes within that. I am beyond blessed to go through the creative process and have the opportunity to set my choreography on others.”

The Nordhoff Dancers include an additional 50 students from the Introduction to Dance and Dance Technique classes who will share tap, jazz, hip hop and contemporary dances for the audience to enjoy.

Guest choreographers this season include Nordhoff Dance alumni who are pursuing careers in the field: Taylor Koester and Michela Villierme (class of 2015) and Audrey Martel (NHS Class of 2016), as well as the distinguished Kelly Carrol.

Carrol recently moved to Ojai from New York City with credits from a lifetime of professional performance and choreography. Carrol was a “Copa Girl” at the original Copacabana in New York, performed internationally and on Broadway as a member of JoJo’s Dance Factory, danced in Grover Dale’s Company at the Lenox Arts Center, and could be found frequently teaching jazz classes at Broadway Dance Center.
