Enjoyment of the natural environment also means a certain amount of responsibility — if you ask students at Ojai Valley School, anyway. A group of OVS students took time out from their class hike recently to clean up a popular swimming hole on the North Fork of Matilija Creek. Under the direction of sixth-grade teachers Ryan Lang and Vanessa Herrera, the 19 hikers spent an hour picking up litter and scrubbing graffiti off the rocks. The students had noticed the excessive litter and graffiti at the swimming hole during a previous field trip to the nearby Matilija Dam, which they had visited as part of the school's watershed studies program.
