No joke: April 1 closure of Carrows came as surprise to employees

In what could have been a not-so-funny April Fool’s joke, employees of the Ojai Carrows restaurant were greeted at work Wednesday with a locked door and sign telling them all shifts were canceled “pending further notice.”
The note stated “asset inventory” as the reason for the closure and asked employees to attend a mandatory meeting Friday.
A spokesperson for Catalina Restaurant Group Inc. confirmed the company was purchased by Food Management Partners, and all Carrows and Coco’s locations are closed for the time being.
