Casitas rangers could be authorized to carry handguns

The park rangers at Lake Casitas could have a bit more going for them in the way of authority before long. Item 13 on Wednesday's meeting agenda for the Casitas Municipal Water District's (CMWD's) Board of Directors will address the issue of authorizing park services staff to function as peace officers.
The primary intention of the item will be that of reviewing the status of park personnel with possible upgrades in training, CMWD General Manager Steve Wickstrum said Tuesday. This could entail their designation as peace officers, he said, although not necessarily armed. "The Board would have to make that authorization," he said.
