Five high school students from two Ojai Valley private schools, are semifinalists for the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. The group represents less than 1 percent of the nation’s high school students.

Four students from The Thacher School — Talia Isaacson, Douglas D. Klink, Katherine M. Rauner and Colin Troughton, and one student from Villanova Preparatory School — Joseph R. Griffen, are among the 16,000 students named as semifinalists from across the country. Most will go on to compete for 7,400 scholarships worth more than $32 million. The decisions and awards will be announced next spring.
