Boat ramp closure having a ripple effect on lake events

Marc Mitrany was ecstatic Tuesday morning.

“It’s the best birthday present I could have,” he said. Tuesday was in fact his birthday, and the “present” was the work in progress to refurbish a boat ramp at Lake Casitas — and the prospect of boating access restored in the near future.

The work, he said, was a concerted effort of area anglers and the Lake Casitas Recreation Department, which had closed the lake’s last operable earthen ramp Jan. 4, citing instability of the clay-based soil.
