Tradition shows tea time doesn’t just belong to golf

Tennis was introduced to the United States in the 1870s. It was played on grass courts and players wore Victorian costumes, swung wooden rackets and smacked wooly, white tennis balls.

Twenty-five years later, William Thacher pioneered the Ojai Valley Tennis Club and began the Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament. This month, “The Ojai” will mark its 116th year.
