Local women get help to continue their education

Two Ojai women, studying at Ventura College (VC), were recently awarded scholarships that will assist in paying for their university studies.

The Phoenix Scholarship Program, sponsored by the Ventura College Foundation, offers scholarship funding to “non-traditional” students, according to Norbert Tan, executive director.

Phoenix Scholarship winners are typically students who took a break in their studies after high school to raise a family or begin working, shared Tan. “We call them re-entry students,” he said. “Most of our students are the first in their family to attend college. We provide guidance and financial assistance.”
