A snail space: New invasive species found in Matilija Creek

As if the threat of quagga mussels was not enough to worry about, the Casitas Municipal Water District (CMWD) now has a second invasive species knocking at the door. The New Zealand mud snail, a prolific, pesky headache for water management, has been found in the North Fork of Matilija Creek.

The CMWD board of directors heard the news at its regular meeting April 27, when general manager Steve Wickstrum said staff biologists had identified the snail during a recent survey of the waterway.
