Culture clash: Debate continues over how best to deal with historical artifacts

The City Council met Tuesday to continue discussion of how to best protect Ojai's cultural resources, most of which remain underground.

According to Julie Tumamait-Stenslie, an Ojai resident and Chumash elder, the Ojai Valley is rich in the archaeological remnants of her ancestors.

“We have layers and layers of history here,” said Tumamait-Stenslie, who emphasized that when we speak about “cultural resources,” we're largely speaking about the belongings and remains of her ancestors.
