The drive is under way to establish a youth orchestra for the Ojai Valley. Auditions have been planned for Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, and Thomas Fredrickson is encouraging young musicians to try out.

The orchestra is open to musicians 18 and younger who are enrolled in public, private or home school, said Fredrickson, music teacher at Matilija Junior High School. Accepted instruments, he said, would include violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba, piano and percussion.
