Ojai police have arrested two suspects in connection with a case of identity theft following an Aug. 9 vehicle break-in on Highway 33. Stephanie Godoy and Melissa Durazo, both of Oxnard, were taken into custody by detectives from the Ojai station Sept. 22.

The investigation began after two friends returned from a hike in the vicinity of Matilija Canyon Road and Highway 33 to find their vehicle had been burglarized. Among the stolen items were credit cards belonging to one of the victims.

“I called the victim, who said her credit card had been used at the Walmart in Ventura,” said Ojai Det. Will Holloway. A Walmart surveillance video was subsequently studied, he said, revealing a pair of suspects, one of whom was using the stolen card for purchases.
