Business booming at Ojai’s homeless shelter

Bill Warner, Ojai Valley News reporter
Business was up at the Ojai Valley Family Shelter (OVFS) this year, according to administrator Rick Raine. Business, in this case, means services and amenities provided annually to the area homeless between Dec. 1 and March 31.
Raine said 111 people were served by OVFS over the course of the 2016-2017 shelter season, up from 89 for the previous season, a 26 percent increase in those who stayed overnight.
It was a difficult season in some respects, he said April 19. “There were some individuals continually causing problems,” he said. “That's just part of the job.”
