Ventura County Superior Court Judge Michele Castillo dropped 19 charges against Ojai resident and Shangri La Care Cooperative (SLCC) co-founder Jeff Kroll May 3, in what Kroll sees as a victory for medical cannabis in Ventura County.
“I can't speak to why (the) charges were dropped,” said Deputy District Attorney Theresa Pollara. “I'm not sure why she (Judge Castillo) did what she did.”
SLCC has been out of operation since Kroll was arrested April 14, 2016 and booked on 44 charges.
Twelve of the 13 remaining charges against Kroll relate to alleged tax fraud or failure to pay taxes, explained Pollara. The final charge is a misdemeanor for unlawful cannabis cultivation, she added.
