Ernesto Velez, a sixth-grader at Mira Monte Elementary School, was recently recognized by the Rotary Club of Ojai as the Physical Education Project Student of the Month for April. His teacher, Peter Cable, nominated Velez. “Ernesto has been a model student all year,” Cable said, “always setting an example for his fellow students when it comes to sportsmanship and hard work. His calm demeanor and strong sense of integrity have made him a quiet leader amongst his peers. I don't doubt that we will be seeing great things from Ernesto in the coming years, both on the field and in the classroom.” For his efforts, Velez was awarded a certificate and a $200 award from Rotarians Bill Hatch, Marc Whitman and Ren Adam. Velez said a few words of thanks to the Rotarians and urged them to get out of their chairs and be active on a regular basis.
