The Ojai Valley will be the centerpiece of the fourth stage of the Amgen Tour of California, an UCI WorldTour event, May 17.
The bike race begins in Santa Barbara on State Route 192, goes over Casitas Pass Road around Lake Casitas, south into Ojai on Highway 150 and over Dennison Grade through Upper Ojai and into Santa Paula. The stage will move on to State Route 126 end in Santa Clarita.
Race officials say Stage four will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. in Santa Barbara and the riders should complete the 99-mile leg shortly before 4 p.m. in Santa Clarita.
Slovakia’s Peter Sagan will lead the field of international cyclists. He won the Tour de France last year and is a two-time world champion. He was the Amgen Tour winner in 2015 and holds the record for stage victories for the event with 15. But Sagan slipped to 35th in 2016.
“I’m very excited to be racing in California,” Sagan said. “Racing in California is a challenge and a joy every time. I hope to continue building on the success I've had at the Amgen Tour of California, and know all the riders will do our best to give the incredible fans another good show this year.”
