Libbey Park was full to overflowing June 24 as fragrance aficionados showed for the 14th annual Ojai Valley Lavender Festival.
“The weather sure spared us,” said Cindy Mullins, festival president. “We didn't have nearly the heat we had Sunday.” Mercury in the Ojai valley hit a relatively pleasant high of 91 degrees by mid-afternoon festival day. Thermometers were courting 104 degrees the same time the following day.
Park and festival workers estimated a turnout of approximately 6,000 people over the course of the day, Mullins said, drawn by the seemingly unlimited range of things 117 vendors can do with lavender — everything from candles, soaps and lotions to vinegars and desserts.
