A plan to renovate an Arcade-area structure has taken a step forward, despite the project raising the hackles of neighbors who believe the changes won't fit in visually with other storefronts.
After several hearings, Ojai Planning commissioners at their July 5 meeting gave their approval to the proposed renovations at 334 E. Ojai Ave., with one commissioner dissenting.
Project designer Ben Turner has been working on the plans since 2015, and said the design that was approved will change the appearance of both the larger building in the rear and the smaller front building.
The building in back will be given a white plaster coat, with a weathered wood trellis at the side and fabric awnings and shades, while the structure in front will receive a hard trowel plaster finish in mid-gray with black trim and a matching wood trellis and fabric shade, Turner stated in an email to the OVN.
It’s the proposed color of the front building that has raised the concern of next door neighbor Dawn Shook, executive officer at the Ojai Valley Board of Realtors at 338 E. Ojai Ave.
