The Ventura County Board of Supervisors has accepted a donation to pay for the repair and upgrade of a playground at the Oak View Park and Resource Center (OVPARC).
The in-kind donation from Child Development Resources (CDR) to the Oak View School Preservation and Maintenance District totaled more than $42,000.
The center, at 555 Mahoney Ave. in Oak View, is the former Oak View School, built in 1947. Currently it houses a Head Start preschool program, county library, several nonprofit groups, a community kitchen used for cooking classes and fundraising events, a playing field, playground and a sheriff's substation.
County supervisors accepted the donation at their July 18 meeting.
“Any time there's an improvement done to the site it's considered a capital improvement, so it changes the value and the liability and all that stuff, so it has to go before the Board to accept the donation,” said Barbara Kennedy, OVPARC site director and property manager.
