As Ojai Unified School District (OUSD) students returned to school Aug. 23, improvements funded by the $35 million Measure J bond fund were on display.
The summer of 2017 represented the most substantial rehabilitation and modernization work on OUSD facilities since Measure J was approved in 2014, said superintendent Andy Cantwell.
To date, OUSD has spent approximately $2 million of the $35 million in bond funds and expects to commit at least another $6.5 million to Measure J projects by April 2018.
While the students were away, District staff and contractors installed a new roof on the Nordhoff High School gym, removed modular classrooms from Meiners Oaks Elementary School and restored the school's roof. They also removed lead-based paint and repainted Mira Monte Elementary School and the Chapparal High School Auditorium.
