City red-tags Signal Street home for code violations

Serious alleged code violations turned up during an inspection of a Signal Street property where as many as 20 people may have been living, according to city of Ojai code enforcement officials.
The inspection followed recent complaints from neighbors in the 400 block of North Signal Street regarding possible health and safety issues at the property.
An inspection by city officials Aug. 25 revealed that several tenants were living at the property in sheds and recreational vehicles.
Officials also found numerous hazards, “including improper electrical wiring, overcrowding and a lack of plumbing that resulted in unsafe and inhumane living conditions for the tenants,” stated James Vega, assistant to the city manager.
At least 20 residents, and possibly more, may have been living at the property, he added.
