The contents of a time capsule buried on the Matilija Junior High School (MJHS) campus more than three decades ago are no longer a mystery.
The time capsule was opened Sept. 1 by MJHS principal Javier Ramirez and assistant principal Carol Paquette during a lunch-period event.
The capsule was discovered in July by a work crew constructing the new Rotary Pavilion on the west side of the school.
Speculation about the nature of the dark green, foot-long plastic container proved correct, so school officials placed it in a display case and ran a contest to see which student could most accurately guess the year the capsule was buried and what it contained.
