Ojai Trolley fares will be going up next year.
At its Sept. 12 meeting, the Ojai City Council voted unanimously to adopt the fare increases effective Jan. 2.
Modified trolley service hours also were adopted and the Council agreed to further investigate an advertising program to increase revenue.
The changes are necessary because of the imminent loss of $89,000 a year in state funding, based on the trolley's current operation.
According to Ojai Public Works Director Greg Grant, increasing fares and selling ads could recoup $65,000 of that loss, while reducing service hours could save the city another $40,000 per year.
Under the changes, the general trolley fare will increase from $1 to $1.50.
