Libbey Bowl was bustling during the weekend of Sept. 16. The venue played host to the 24th Bowlful of Blues and the 50th Ojai Valley Mexican Fiesta.
The Bowlful of Blues came first. Event organizer Lanny Kaufer called the Sept. 16 concert “an artistic success,” but admitted it didn't draw as many attendees as it did in 2016.
“There were a lot of choices for the community (that weekend), which is good, but a little extra competition for us,” he said. “It was a successful event for the people who attended. Our lineup was stellar and the sound was excellent.”
Kaufer said proceeds from the event would be donated to support music education for local youth.
Sept. 17 brought a wholly different event — an afternoon of Mexican music, dancing and food.
The Fiesta returned to Libbey Bowl for the first time in five years to celebrate its 50th anniversary, said Gabriela Vargas, secretary of the Ojai Valley Mexican Fiesta Committee.
She estimated that 400 people attended the festivities throughout the day.
