Two illegal pot grows raided — more than 18,000 plants destroyed

Perry Van Houten, Ojai Valley News reporter
The Ventura County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) says it has eradicated two cannabis grows in the Los Padres National Forest.
On Sept. 22, VSCO detectives, along with U.S. Forest Service (USFS) law enforcement personnel, discovered a large grow containing approximately 18,000 cannabis plants one mile northeast of Thomas Aquinas College, between the Upper Ojai Valley and Santa Paula.
It appeared to be an active grow, according to VSCO Capt. Garo Kuredjian.
He said the site's caretakers had begun harvesting the plants and more than 300 pounds of drying cannabis was found.
Kuredjian put the street value of the haul at roughly $4 million.
