A week-long investigation by Ventura County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) detectives led to the arrest of an Oak View man on child pornography, sexual battery and other charges.
According to the VCSO, 64-year-old George Baker Jr. allegedly targeted students at a recent Nordhoff High School football game.
On Sept. 29 at 9:21 p.m., Ojai deputies and school officials received a report of a man in the stadium taking pictures of female students.
Deputies found Baker at the game and escorted him off campus.
Detectives launched an investigation, and working with school officials identified two victims who had come forward following the incident.
“The investigation revealed the suspect had battered one victim, sexually battered the second, and he was in violation of child annoying by taking photographs of both victims in a provocative manner,” stated VCSO detective Will Hollowell.
The batteries involved grabbing one student’s arm and another’s buttocks, according to Hollowell.
Neither victim knew Baker, according to Hollowell, and all the alleged crimes took place on campus during the game.
Baker was arrested at his workplace and booked into the Ventura County Jail.
Shortly after his arrest, detectives served a search warrant at Baker's home and say they found child pornography on his computer.
Authorities suspect that Baker may have committed similar crimes involving other teenage girls. He was seen allegedly taking photographs of students at the Sept. 15 football game at Nordhoff High School, “but no one was alerted,” Hollowell said.
Baker was released from jail after posting $50,000 bail and awaits an Oct. 25 court date.
OUSD Superintendent Andy Cantwell said he was grateful for the students' courage in alerting school administrators to the issue.
Hollowell encouraged anyone with information on Baker's activities or additional victims to call 477-7042.
