The city of Ojai is replacing its free electric vehicle (EV) charging stations with new units that users will have to pay to use. In other words, users will be charged to be charged. The change is coming, according to Ojai Public Works Director Greg Grant because of increasing EV use. The cost of using the new stations will be $1 per hour. The new chargers are “Smart Networked” using online apps that show the status and availability of chargers, interactive directions and allow users to make reservations. The chargers at Ojai City Hall will be converted Oct. 20 and the chargers at the Ojai Park & Ride soon after, according to Grant. Most of the cost of replacing the charging stations was funded by a grant from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District (VCAPCD).
