Private schools in the Ojai Valley are working to ensure that trees on their campuses are safe, following a recent accident on an Ojai Unified School District (OUSD) campus.
Five people were injured, two critically, when an elm branch fell on them at Topa Topa Elementary School Sept. 25.
The incident prompted a thorough, ongoing examination of all trees on OUSD campuses.
Area private schools have taken similar safety measures, some without skipping a beat.
“The day of the Topa Topa incident, the arborist came out that afternoon to take a look at our trees,” said Jodi Grass, head of school at Oak Grove School in Meiners Oaks.
