A homegrown youth organization that’s affected the lives of thousands of Ojai Valley teenagers will celebrate its 20th anniversary in December.
The Ojai Valley Youth Foundation (OVYF) was created in 1997 to implement the Ojai Valley Youth Master Plan, commissioned in 1996 by Mayor Steve Olsen and Ojai City Manager Andy Belknap.
“The Youth Master Plan outlined how to foster a safe and nurturing community for young people and promote the positive interaction among youth and adults,” stated the organization’s first executive director, Caryn Bosson.
It came at a time when California was pushing cities to offer more positive after-school opportunities for teens.
