Golden State files Playhouse appeal 30 minutes before deadline

Golden State Water Company (GSWC) filed paperwork Nov. 13 to appeal Ventura County Superior Court Judge Vincent O'Neill's decision that found GSWC liable for approximately $2.7 million in damages to the Ojai Playhouse after the July 20, 2014 water main break that has left the Playhouse closed indefinitely.
GSWC's notice of appeal was filed at 3:21 p.m. Nov. 13, according to Ventura County Superior Court Clerk Albert Villegas. The appeal notice came in 39 minutes before the 4 p.m. filling deadline.
Attorneys for Ojai Playhouse owners Khaled and Walid Al-Awar said the last-minute filing left them with the distinct impression that GSWC is attempting to drag out the case as long as possible.
“That seems to be their modus operandi,” said attorney John Howard, who represents the Al-Awars alongside co-counsel Brett Templeman.
