Wildfire preparedness plans for the Ojai Valley continue to take shape on both the city and county level.
Scheduled for discussion by the Ojai City Council at its Nov. 28 meeting — but not discussed due to time constraints — was a report by Ojai City Manager Steve McClary on the city's strategy for fire prevention and emergency preparedness.
In the report, McClary addressed several concerns brought up by the Council Nov. 14 including explanation of the Ventura County Fire Department's (VCFD) defensible space ordinance and its Fire Hazard Reduction Program (FHRP), pre-set evacuation plans for the city, scheduling an emergency preparedness exercise and ways to assist the public in protecting their homes from wildfire.
City staff worked with VCFD, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) and the Ventura County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services (OES) to provide the information.
