Town hall set to discuss potential Vista Fire burn area flooding

Perry Van Houten, Ojai Valley News reporter
Debris flows from the Vista Fire burn area could overrun Casitas Springs and Highway 33 this winter, so officials with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) have scheduled a community town hall meeting to discuss the potential impacts.
The meeting, hosted by the Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services (OES), is set for Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Oak View Community Center at 18 Valley Road in Oak View.
Experts on preparedness and response efforts for the burn area and possible impacts to Highway 33 will be on hand, including representatives from OES, VCSO, the Ventura County Fire Department, Ventura County Animal Services, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the National Weather Service and the Red Cross.
Attendees will hear presentations by a county geologist and hydrologist.
The Oct. 24 Vista Fire burned 87 acres near Casitas Springs and left barren the hillsides adjacent to Highway 33.
