Thomas Fire now 86 percent contained

The largest wildfire in modern California history, the Thomas Fire, is now 86 percent contained. 
Fire officials announced Dec. 25 that an additional half-mile of containment was gained over the past few days in the Cherry Creek area North of Ojai. 
Since the fire began Dec. 4, 281,620 acres have been burned, 1,063 structures have been destroyed and 280 have been damaged, the fire officials reported. 
A back-burning operation was initiated Dec. 18 in the Cherry Creek Road area that closed a containment loop in that area.
