Ventura County Fire Department personnel spray cold fire foam on burning oil seeps in Upper Ojai Dec. 28.

Andra Belknap, Ojai Valley News reporter
Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) firefighters spent Dec. 27 and Dec. 28 extinguishing smoldering oil seeps in the Upper Ojai Valley.
Crews used a foam concentrate, known as Cold Fire, mixed with water to suppress the fires, according to VCFD Capt. Stan Ziegler.
VCFD crews are using 40 gallons of Cold Fire for every 1,000 gallons of water they apply to the seeps, Zeigler said. The foam mixture is applied directly to the oil seeps from a fire hose.
Cold Fire, according to Ziegler, is biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
