News from around the Ojai Valley

Rain possible as early as next week

Perry Van Houten, Ojai Valley News reporter
The Ojai Valley could receive its first significant rainfall in more than seven months to begin 2018, affording some measure of hope that the worst start to the rainy season on record can be turned around.
According to data from the Ventura County Watershed Protection District (VCWPD), only 0.04 inches of rain have been recorded at Fire Station 21 in Ojai since the rain year began Oct. 1.
You have to look to the winter of 1999-2000 to find any other rain year getting off to such a sluggish start.
That year, just 0.71 inches of rain fell between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31.
Normal precipitation for that period is 5.94 inches, according to VCWPD.
