The Ojai Valley Athletic Club Championship winners and other club members helped Thomas Hopkins (center) raise funds to help him purchase a custom wheelchair that will allow him to play the game he loves.
Ojai Valley Athletic Club (OVAC) member Karen Mathews, and OVAC Tennis Director, Thomas Brinkhoff, recently organized a competitive tennis fundraiser to purchase a custom wheelchair for Thomas Hopkins, a local college student studying to work in the medical office management field.
Born with Spina Bifada, Hopkins loves to play tennis. Mathews recently began playing two bounce doubles tennis with Hopkins, who played during summer camps as a child, but who has never had the opportunity to own a tennis wheelchair.
OVAC recently sponsored a fundraising auction and a club championship tennis competition featuring a Calcutta format. Five doubles teams of women and eight doubles teams of men played a round-robin format for points, culminating in a final match in each division.
